Winding issue with Cal 42 Gyromatic HF

Apr 13, 2012,11:36 AM

Okay guys - with normal automatics,it is normal to wind the watch, when the reserve has wound down, until such time that the rotor starts to build up kinetic energy.I have tried to wind the movement, but turning crown towards six o'clock feels more like I am unscrewing the crown ! - but turning the opposite way, towards 12 o'clock crown is stiff and does not move and I will not force it for fear of damage. If the crown is pulled out one position,it alters the time, the second position alters the date when advanced 24 hours and those functions are fine. - Am I missing a trick here ? - to be fair the watch is working and keeping good time and looks great and is from a reputable dealer - what is correct for this movement. Please see the square cased steel watch posted most recently to see the watch

Hi I actually have a GP with 31.09 movement, which exhibits the same symptom, I think i.e.: hand winding is very stiff, and is actually only possible when the watch is "perfectly" horizontal, in as much as the rotor is actually entrained by the crown. I w...

Your comments are most interesting - I received a quote back form the watch repairer that the watch required 'replacement automatic winding wheels' and overhaul - basically, the watch was keeping good time anyway, but you know how it is - when they get it i...
