2012 is the year of the Tank and besides the Tank Anglaise which is the major new product line for the year, Cartier recently presented the Tank Solo XL. This is now the entry level mechanical - the previous Tank Solo watches were quartz - Tank watch in t...

Thank you or this quick review......

I also noticed that there are Ronde XL models with similar price points and the automatic movement, for those who prefer round watches. Bill

Yes indeed the Ronde Solo XL

Thanks for reminding me Bill. It is also another affordably priced Cartier but it lacks the cachet of the Tank design, in my opinion. The Tank Solo XL is a standout because it's a Tank, and it's affordable. - SJX

I think this interpretation of the "enty-level" theme is much better ...

... than the introduction of the "Pasha C" several years ago, where the gap between the "real" Pasha and the "C" was enormous. I like this Tank, and think that overall the golden model is the best. To use a stainless steel caseback reduces cost where it d...

The steel case back has some historical precedent

Vintage Tank watches used white gold case backs for yellow gold cases. Even though it is obviously a cost cutting measure, it means the watch is less than USD10,000. There is no other gold, mechanical Cartier at that price. - SJX

SJX, lovely pictures, and an excellent report. I love the

Good to see you here my friend

The gold is about USD8000 in Singapore, with 7% tax included. - SJX

strap. Amazing value for money. Looks great.

Relative to the standard Cartier fare this is priced competitively

Not many brands can range across such a wide price range, while still maintaining the allure of the brand. - SJX

I agree with you 100%. They look beautiful and elegant.

Can you arrange side by side photos of this model with the Rotonde date, which is also 'affordable'?

Will do a comparison with the Ronde Solo XL

and I will post a comparison with the Tank Louis Cartier XL soon. - SJX

A very worthy entry level watch!

Even if as I wrote in your other post that I would have prefered it without the date window. But Cartier did a great job here. Fx

The stainless steel version sounds great for any young professional who wants a quality mechanical watch from a reputable manufacturer. It's a watch that embodies classic values, and I'd be keen to see this watch in person to ascertain its size and feel p...

Thank You very much. This is exactly the type of review I was looking for, with excellent pics of all the models, at various angles. I have a Tank Solo Large in Stainless steel, with a leather strap. My main interest in the XL is the ss model with the ss ...

I am inclined to agree with you a formal dress watch should be a bit smaller, and should not have a seconds hand either. - SJX
