FrX,
Thank you for the virtual visit to the Source of Cartier in rue de la Paix, Paris; a few steps away from the old Opera House.
Change is inevitable in evolution and we accept the new look is more ergonomic at Cartier Boutique Central but I miss the old watch-rooms on the left wing as one walked into the old boutique. There, it was a quiet oasis of horological heaven after the busy streets of Paris outside.
My usual Cartier Boutique correspondent is the charming Paul Bassene (who has the loudest laugh from his African roots).
In those days, there were not as many eager young salespersons as we have today but the Cartier products were truly wonderful.
Monsieur Bassene is very persuasive and one of these beauties followed me home to Tokyo.
The marvellous mysteries of Cartier were discretely revealed, as were the prices of these vintage clocks on offer. If I had a crystal ball like the crystal cases of the clocks, I could have foreseen the economic crashes of the 'Noughties' and hedged my funds into Mystery Clocks instead of losing a fortune.......
Now, those prices in 2001 seem s-o-o-o reasonable
You could be forgiven for thinking I was back in Tokyo for lunch below but actually I was still a couple of blocks away from the Cartier atelier!
After that, I had to go see a man about a dog.....in Grenelle.
Thanks to Cartier Paris for the festive visit to the Boutique by FrX.
Regards,
MTF
