Rotonde de Cartier Large Date Retrograde Second Time Zone is a very good offering.
Immediately recognisable as a Cartier watch but with a "normal" (round) case shape, the extra functions are actually useful in our modern interconnected world.
We all have friends, family and business in different time zones so this will be used. Currently, my only recourse is to open my World Time APP on a smartphone or tablet to confirm another time zone. Of course, one could do some mental arithmetic to determine the time difference but when you factor in jet-lag, alcohol, Daylight Saving Time changeover and the (relative) sheer ugliness of an iPhone, this Cartier solution is much more viable.
I like it.....and not in a FaceBook Twittering sort of way.......
Unfortunately, at CHF 9416, this watch will not qualify for the "Moderate Price" Category (
On a separate note, a discussion about "travel" watches arose during the recent PuristS on Tour 2014 factory visits. One postulate was that after travelling away from home for more than a week, across time zones and International Date Lines, the really useful function is NOT a date display but a DAY display. The usual question is "What day is it? -- My return flight is on Friday."
