Nouveautes Cartier in Amsterdam

Feb 27, 2014,16:27 PM

At least that's what the invite said.

So I was hoping to see the Tank MC Skeleton, Rotonde De Cartier Earth and Moon flying Tourbillon, Day and Night with retrograde moon phases, and above all the Astrocalendar!

So of I went to the nice Richemont building at Herengracht in Amsterdam.

To find out that they only showed pictures of those watches :-(  Thank god for some champagne and a promise to a personal invite when those watches mentioned reach the Netherlands so I can se them live. Something to look forward too.

Obviously there were a few nice watches to try on (all the normal ones actually). From which I liked the Ballon Bleu De Cartier Extra Large Chronograph the most (didn't bother to take a picture). After a few watches they came up with the Rose Gold Calibre De Cartier Diver. Didn't fancy that. Too "Russian" if you ask me. I really did't like the pictures that I saw online before this event of the Calibre De Cartier Diver at all. Ugly watch is what I thought.  Then the steel version with rubber strap was taken out of it's showcase and I must admit it grows on you.

iPhone pic so not that nice:

The watch has to been seen in the flesh!! And on casual clothes. Jeans and Tee.

Pro's:
It is so not Cartier that it is kinda cool (if you get my drift). Has to be said that they should get kudos for the nerve to launch this.
It wears comfortable (rubber strap).
It's light.
It's relatively cheap (retail EUR 6,500 or something in that order)
The Roman numerals (super-lumed) and the big XII. The design is bold. Not too many divers with Roman numerals out there and a central second hand for whatever that's worth!
It's 42 mm
300 meters so legit diver

Con' s
The rotating bezel does't rotate that easy but who uses that anyway?
Hate that IWC date window (guess that's personal)
On a steel strap it looks clunky

BUT
Would you choose it over a Panerai Or Sub? One thing is for sure: it's fresh. It's exciting. Would I buy it? mmmmm All I can say that it is not on my wish list. Could be an impulsive buy I guess. When the price is right.

Of this brand new piece from Cartier. You are right that it is so different from their usual look. And I was surprised that the watch is only 42mm as it looks much heftier in pictures and on the wrist and how you said it's light. Would you say that it wea...

it is actually not that thick

for a 300 meter diver (12,6 mm). But it indeed wears bigger. Looks more like 44 mm. My wrists aren't small at all.

Too Russian?

Not sure what you mean when you say the rose gold diver is "Too Russian" ? The diver looks great on your wrist. I am beginning to warm to the date window. Dean

a bit too flashy,

Arie, I believe you mini-review of the new Calibre de Cartier Diver watch (especially in steel case that grows on you) is the key point. "It's so not Cartier........" Thanks, MTF

Thanks a lot Arie for the post!
