Sold at Christie's in 2008 for CHD147,000, this rare Cartier grande complication - perpetual calendar, minute repeater and rattrapante chronograph - was made in 1925 and contained an EWC movement. It now resides in the Cartier Collection in Geneva and occasionally travels the world on exhibition.
EWC, or European Watch & Clock Company, was a joint venture between Cartier and Edmond Jaeger to supply Cartier with high-end movements, many of which were made by LeCoultre. Many of the movements supplied by EWC to Cartier were complicated or ultra-flat, and this is a perfect example of a Cartier grande complication.
Damian asked for additional photos of this after seeing this pocket watches in an earlier thread (click here to see that discussion), so here they are.
The watch is in excellent condition, with the minute repeater chiming loudly and clearly. A especially beautiful detail is the Art Deco styled bow on the case.
Another remarkable watch is this jump hour minute repeater, also containing an EWC movement. More photos of this to come in the future.
