The Rotonde de Cartier Durer's Folium Seconds was launched at SIHH earlier this year. Its only complication is a seconds hand that traces a figure of eight - a cycloid known as Durer's Folium - in the middle of the dial. It is not an exceedingly complicated watch, but it is whimsical and different.
The base caliber is a Roger Dubuis automatic, note the elaborate cocks for the escape, third and fourth wheels, as well as the black polished cap on the escape wheel bridge, which are some traits of Genevoise style watchmaking. But as with other Fine Watchmaking models, the complication module, in this case the seconds hand, is designed and manufactured by Cartier.
Carole Forestier conceived this watch because she wanted a "seconds [hand] that moves different", but at the same time she desired something creative, rather than technical or complex. And so the Durer's Folium Seconds was born.
