more and more interesting

Thanks for the infos SJX, everything is clear for the eight days !

I am going out of the subject, because the EWC movements are quite interesting.

Another example the monopusher (Tortue, Tank) comes from EWC but not from Lecoultre, or?

Or were there some exclusivty already at that time? I do not remember also if the basis was identical to the Geneva Sport. 237, I thought it was but I now have a doubt, maybe I am completely wrong.

I love when it's a bit messy, and vintage is fantastic for that smile

cheers

François

One of my favourites from the Cartier Collection - Tank Eight Days

 By: SJX : June 19th, 2010-23:55
One of my favourite watches from the Cartier Collection is this Eight Days Tank in yellow gold; the Cartier Collection is the range of vintage items owned by Cartier and exhibited around the world. This watch dates from 1938, the first golden age of Carti...

That is such a beauty!

I have never seen this watch. What a gorgeous Tank this is, with the facet glass, Breguet hands and an 8 days movement, pretty rear for Catier, an eight days movement. These classic watches are, IMHO, really incredible. GEO

Interesting

The watch is one of the most desirable vintage Cartier, an amazing watch, simple and pure beauty. But I am surprised to see LeCoultre on this beautiful caliber, because from an auction catalogue I have seen that [img]http://www.izipik.com/images/200910/19...

another try for photos

EWC and LeCoultre

 By: SJX : June 20th, 2010-15:11
Thanks for the additional photos Francois. EWC was a joint venture between Cartier and Edmond Jaeger to supply Cartier with high-end timepiece movements, both for wristwatches and clocks. Most watch movements were obtained from LeCoultre, since EWC was no...

The famous Tortue Monopoussoir

 By: SJX : June 21st, 2010-14:37
was a EWC movement supplied by LeCoultre. A very fine and well decorated calibre. I do not know if it is the same as the one you show, I am travelling and do not have access to my photos. Will check when I get back. - SJX

Maybe I was mistaken

The two calibers look very different, not only the cut of the bridge are completely different but the architecture too. (and of course the finish) Francois

What a great looking mvmnt really. [nt]

Outstanding piece - love it. A few things to note about

 By: 219 : June 20th, 2010-14:32
the watch. First, that the technology for an eight day movement has existed for over 75 years, and hence, perhaps strange that no one built on that. Second, and interestingly, the CPCP 8 day had the MJLC movement in it - modified to the Cartier. There is ...

A lost age - perhaps not...

when I was at the Collection Cartier viewing the amazing collection, Carole Forestier was also there with her notebook. Perhaps there is already an 8 days movement in the works, or perhaps that inspired her. Who knows? - SJX

Indeed, SJX, this is an exquisite watch!

Why is Cartier always ahead of the game?

An 8 day power reserve is even today very impressive! Do you know how LeCoultre/Cartier achieved the 8 day powerreserve? It looks like they use 2 barrels to achieve this? Like Andrew already pointed out; why did they never build on this one? It is a very ...

Yes it is a double barrel movement

Cartier did producean 8 days Tortue in the discontinued Collection Privee Cartier Paris, using a JLC 8 days calibre also found in the Master Antoine LeCoultre, but that watch has since been discontinued. If Cartier introduces another 8 day movement as par...

Sweet oldie. Beautiful movement.

It's nice to see this kind of old movements and how the achieve what only a few achieve nowadays, eighty years ago. Thanks. Vte

That is a stunner on a totally different scale

Such a nice piece! I am all for a revival of this piece. I think it will fit in nicely in the portfolio. Elegant but with extended power reserve. Niiiice! Best regards, Kazumi

I had no idea there were 8 day movements so long ago! What a fantastic watch! Everything from the slightly angled lugs to the wonderful faceted crystal is eye catching. Thats one vintage watch I'd love to see modernized, offered in rose gold with a very c...
