Calibre de Cartier launch Event – 3rd June 2010 Kuala Lumpur
The New Launch of new Cartier Era

On Thursday June 3rd, at a new gallery space in the heart of Kuala Lumpur located close to the iconic Petronas towers, Cartier presented for the first time in South East Asia its new iconic watch, the Calibre de Cartier.

Guests entered the building, which was decorated in black, grey and steel colours, through a specially constructed circular tunnel as if entering the world of a watch movement. Upon entering guests were met with a contemporary space decorated with elegant yet futuristic items of elegance.

Near the entrance was a photo wall with the Calibre de Cartier watch that stood tall and provided the perfect stage for numerous guests to show their timepieces on hand and their best smiles. The high profile event drew Cartier guests from across Malaysia including celebrities, high society, industry movers & shakers, watch collectors, VIP clients & members of the media.

Guests were dressed to the theme of “Elegant Black & White”, in tune with the iconic white and black numerals Cartier dial, and were transported into a masculine environment containing a mix of sleek white furniture, steel cocktail tables and a mysterious circular structure in the shape of a watch movement elevated in the middle of the room.

Above right: Christopher Kilaniotis, Cartier Managing Director - one of the most talented and engaged MDs in the region

Immediately after the welcome speech of Christopher Kilaniotis, the Cartier Managing Director for the region, the steel coloured curtain surrounding the circular structure slowly opened to unveil the Calibre de Cartier collection on the wrist of 'Cartier men' flanked by female security guards in black and white attires. Among them were specially designed Calibre showcases containing watches from the collection.

The powerful performance was met with a big applause from the guests with a number of them immediately trying the watches on their wrist. The powerful lines and robust structure of the watch impressed as did the transparent sapphire crystal case back revealing the calibre 1904 MC, the first self winding movement to be produced by Cartier.

The calibre 1904 MC reflects the intense, ambitious research that Cartier has carried out over the years in the field of watch movements. Apart from the already produced in house manual winding and quartz calibers Cartier now has a new star in its movements line up. This overt determination to develop its own movements, both simple and with complications, confirms Cartier's strong intents to uphold the status of its La Chaux de Fonds manufacture as one of the most creative and vertically integrated watch Manufactures in the world.

As for the elegant, masculine Calibre event....it finished past midnight with a toast to Cartier's new watchmaking direction.
